Arizona Sports Weekend

This weekend I went down south to Phoenix for a sports-filled weekend. Here is a rundown of that little trip:

Friday: On the way to Phoenix I was able to watch the BYU vs Boise State game.
Lets just say I wouldve rather stared at a wall than watch that game. 1st of all neither team scored until the second half of the game and when boise did score it was an interception from some huge dude who got the pick 6. Then when BYU finally scored, Bronco Mendenhall was an idiot and went for 2 with a true freshman QB?? Really bronco? come on...
I was satisfied with the fact that BYU lost but still, boring game.
Final Score: 6-7

Saturday: ASU vs. UTAH
bad. bad. bad. bad. bad. bad. bad. bad. bad. bad.
The defense for the U is one of the stronger things going for them and they didn't even show up to the game. Jon Hays wasn't throwing the ball and was playing the run game with John White who was off his game as well. Hopefully that Utah can pull it together during their bye week..Next week is USC. Final Score: 37-7

Sunday: EAGLES vs. CARDINALS
This was my first NFL game and it was incredible. Although the cardinals pretty much blew out the eagles, it was so much fun. The atmosphere in the cardinals stadium was SO SICK and they are undefeated with a 3-0 record! This brings me to my point that the cardinals might have been considered the "underdog" but watch out because they are bringing the fire this season. The offense has finally got a rhythm with Kevin Kolb as QB and the defense is playing better than ever. The next 3 weeks should be easy games with the dolphins, rams, and bills. If the Cards keep their winning streak up, they could be undefeated and ready to battle the vikings! GO CARDS!
Final score: 27-6

The Holy War

Rivalry History
If you are a Utah native you of all people should know that the BYU vs. Utah rivalry isn't something to take lightly. Ever since 1896, these two schools have gone at it in hopes to have bragging rights for the next year until they meet again. This year played out just like every other holy war (trash talking, bets, family feuds, mormon jokes, and "unclassy" comments) but this year would be the last time played in Rice Eccles Stadium for at least 2 years so this truly was war.

Pregaming
As a Utah fan living in Provo, I did everything in my power to get a ticket into the MUSS. As the week began, the heat started to rise and the trash talking began. With Utah recently losing to the Aggies and with a team full of backups, BYU fans were maybe a little bit over confident in what was to come.

As I was talking to a BYU fan he said: "BYU might be the better team, but Utah always plays better in the rivalry. This statement was absolutely true when the Utes and Cougars matched up on Saturday.

The Game
The energy at the stadium was unreal for any fan. As I made my way to my seat and the game began the pressure started to kick in. The Utes started the game very strong with the first touch down of the game. As soon as BYU got the ball, Riley Nelson dropped the ball after a low snap and the Utes were feeling confident.

As the game went on I started to tune out and enjoy myself as well as people watch all the crazy college MUSS fans. Until about 1 minute left in the game. When the Cougars got the ball and headed down the field, the nerves set in. 3 points was enough to tie the game up at 24. BYU had about 8 seconds left when the ball was thrown incomplete with .1 second left.

Well, The MUSS didn't know this and rushed the field (yes I was one of them and the wall was 12 feet high). As we all got escorted back onto the sideline, we were all very optomistic still. I didn't even see the blocked kick when everyone started pushing to get onto the field. When the refs called "15 yards due to the crowd rushing the field before the play ended", my heart sank. This would be an easy field goal and the game would easily go into overtime. Wrong. The ball hit the post. According to many BYU fans "God made the ball hit the field goal post not allowing it to go in because overtime would force BYU to play at midnight which would make it sunday".

The game ended 3 crowd rushes later with Jon Hays in a crowd surf as Falslev cried on the field. Until next year BYU, where we will meet for the last time in Provo.

Key Players and Upsets

UTAH

Jon Hays: Stepped in as the starting QB and played an awesome game and was almost flawless.
Dres Anderson: 39 yard touchdown pass that brought the Utes ahead 24-7.
Star Lotulele and Trevor Reilly: Both put a lot of pressure on Riley Nelson and the BYU offense.

BYU

Cody Hoffman: 120 yards and 1 touchdown.

Michael Alisa: Although he struggled on some plays, he had 56 yards for BYU.
Kyle Van Noy: Kept Utahs wide recievers from being open.

UPSET OF THE GAME: Justin Sorenson BYU kicker.

Hottest Players (because I am a girl):

Michael Alisa: Polynesian and an RM? Yes please.

Introduction: Welcome to the big show.

Welcome to the big show. My name is Madison McBride and for the next semester I will be blogging about sports from a women's perspective. Men are always associated with sports. Its almost un-American for a male to not know whats the latest in sports. Well, believe it or not there are women who love sports just as much as men. Sometimes even more (which usually ends up being very awkward when I know more about the game than the guy I am on a date with).

I was born and raised in a household with sports everywhere. My brothers all played football, basketball, golf, baseball, etc. My mom and dad were both very into sports as well. It wasn't until I went through my awkward "TomBoy" stage around age 10 when i started enjoying sports.

I am now a 19 year old student, wearing the latest J. Crew trend, flirting with boys, working at Iggy's Sports Grill, and watching ESPN as much as possible. I was a cheerleader in high school but I was the crazy one actually getting into the game. And while all my friends got jobs at the nearest tanning salon, I worked at a sports grill so i didn't miss out on the big game.

As I report on the latest in sports over the course I hope you enjoy my opinons and consider that not all girls are clueless bimbos when it comes to sports, even if we do look cuter than some at the game.
