Distracting

Its been a while since I have written a really girly-minded post. As a reminder, Yes i am a girl with a undying love for sports. I love the game. But because I am a girl I do have other things in mind too, like how i am going to one day marry a man who will play for the NBA one day. I do love the game but I love the men who play the game as well. In fact sometimes it can be a little bit distracting. Here is a run down of my top 10 list on the most attractive men in sports.

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:

Tony Parker: It may be because he speaks french but he is beautiful.

David Beckham: Isn't this obvious?

Dwayne Wade: He has mad swag. No doubt about it.

Kurt Warner: retired and still on my mind. Husband Material.

Shane Battier: His skin color is perfecto.

Miles Austin: That smile..

Reggie Bush: perfection.

Amare Stoudemire: Its the way he dunks the basketball.

Larry Fitzgerald: Long hair don't care.

Steve Nash: when he isn't wearing his Lakers uniform..he has potential.

Peaks and Valleys

I haven't been very consistent on my blog posts lately...but let me explain why:

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY TEAMS IN ANY SPORT IS AWFUL RIGHT NOW.

My momma has always told me, "Sports is a land of Peaks and Valleys". In one game there might be a game winning shot that wins the big game but in another game you could be the team that loses because of that shot. It works long term as well. One year you could have all the players in the future hall of fame but next year they could be traded or injured. I love the highs of sports and i think its the reason i haven't completely given up on sports. Sometimes the lows can make you in the worst mood but the feeling of winning a game counteracts it and it has made me fall in love with sports.
Here are the lows that have me in a sports slump lately:

UTAH UTES
The Utes this week just didn't finish out their game against Arizona..big shocker there. They aren't qualified for a bowl game because of it so there season will be over on Saturday. I feel like the Utes had great potential but it was never taken advantage of. Next year won't be much better with having their seniors gone. Especially, Star Lotulelei going to the NFL this coming draft. Another major loss is going to be John White 4 (the wolf man) because he is the best bet for the running game.

ARIZONA CARDINALS
Okay so you were 5-0 in the first 5 games of the season so what the heck happened? I had so much confidence in this team but they have definitely lost their touch due to many injuries. They were so much fun to watch but not so much anymore.

PHOENIX SUNS
I barely even recognize this team this year. After losing Nash and Grant Hill, the team looks and feels different. Although they are keeping up somewhat, i really miss watching the old phoenix suns. Steve Nash was the reason people would like the Suns in my opinion. He was the face of the Suns for so long and they definitely have some rebuilding to do in the next few years.

Most Wonderful Time of the Year

This really is the best time of year. Especially for sports fans. Between October-December we get to enjoy the best of sports. Baseball. Football. Basketball.

High School Football: State Playoffs and Championships..best of the best.  Prediction: Syracuse

College Football: Getting heated up with bowl season just around the corner. Plus who doesn't love getting all bundled up to go to a college football game. Prediction: Oregon

NFL: Teams are battling with the super bowl just months away. Prediction: SanFran 49ers

Baseball: The Giants beat the Tigers 4-0 to win the world series.

College Basketball: Pre-Season is finally over and we get to see what teams have what it takes for March Madness.

NBA: The best of them all, in my opinion. We get to see which teams are going to choke and which are going to rise. Right now the Lakers are choking and I love it more than a fat kid loves cake.

Dedication

Its the most wonderful time of the year. NBA has started and the NFL is still going. What more could a sports fan want? This particular post I want to talk about where my love of sports started and how it has grown over the years.

I was born and raised a Utah Jazz fan until I moved to Arizona at about age 11, which is where I started to gain my own opinion about the sport of basketball. I fell in love with Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns. This was a great time to fall in love with this particular team because they were a power house. Mike D' Antoni was coach of the year, Steve Nash won 2 MVPs in a row and they had players like Amare Stoudemire, Raja Bell, Leandro Barbosa, Boris Diaw, and Shawn Marion. This was THE team to watch.

After living in Arizona and coming back to Salt Lake City, I stayed true to my Phoenix Suns. I still thought of the Jazz as my second favorite team but when it came to the suns...they were MY team.
This is where the idea of my blog first originated because from this point on, I became one of the boys. I would get into arguments and bet on the latest game with all of my brothers and his friends. Although I did play some junior Jazz basketball when I was younger, I didn't fully understand the sport until about middle school.

When high school rolled around, one might think I would join the basketball team or the volleyball team..nope. Just the opposite actually. I joined the cheerleading team so I could watch all of the action front row. I started loving football my sophomore year when we went to the state finals and I got to cheer for the varsity team at rice-eccles stadium. Our football team had about 3 potential NFL players and it was so much fun to get into the sport. When basketball rolled around, it was so much fun cheering for my own brother and his friends on the team as well.

After cheer ended and I graduated from high school, sports were takin to another level when I went to the U of U and joined the MUSS. College sports were so much more intense but I did miss being on the sideline. It was time for me to get a job so, naturally, I got a job at the local sports grill so I would never miss out on a game.

My dedication to the Suns won't ever really leave me but it was very hard this last year when Steve Nash decided to join my least favorite team in the league. Lucky for me, I got to meet him when he played his last game with the Suns in the spring. I actually waited at his hotel for 4 hours and got to meet the whole team. Some call it stalking, I call it dedication ;)

Crunch Time

3..2..1...As the clock winds down and the game is too close for comfort, I have always wondered what goes on in the huddle right before. What is the mentality of the team that is about to score and what is the coach telling them? No, I have never been on a football or basketball team in this type of situation, so as a viewer I have always wanted to get inside of an athletes head during crunch time.  The pressure is on but how do these athletes execute themselves in certain situations? I decided to ask some local athletes what their thoughts were in a real life scenario.

Scenario-College Football

Scenario: Your football team is losing by 1 and the kicker has been 0-3 today. You have the ball at the 35 yard line and it's 4th down with 5 yards to go. This will be the last play of the game before the clock runs out.

Questions: (1)What is your mentality? (2)What would your coach say in the huddle? (3)How will your team execute?

Name: Jon Hays
School: University of Utah
Positon: Quarterback
1. "We should kick it. The chances of making the kick are way higher than scoring a touchdown. I am always confident in my teammates"
2. "The coaches wouldn't have anything to say because everyone knows whats on the line"
3. "We would execute like we always do."

Name: Richard Wilson
School: Brigham Young University
Position: Tight End

1."I want to take matters into my hands and have the offense out there to run the play."
2. "Coach tells us that we just have to execute like we already have."
3."we will most likely go back to a play that has already been successful before."

Arizona Sports Weekend

This weekend I went down south to Phoenix for a sports-filled weekend. Here is a rundown of that little trip:

Friday: On the way to Phoenix I was able to watch the BYU vs Boise State game.
Lets just say I wouldve rather stared at a wall than watch that game. 1st of all neither team scored until the second half of the game and when boise did score it was an interception from some huge dude who got the pick 6. Then when BYU finally scored, Bronco Mendenhall was an idiot and went for 2 with a true freshman QB?? Really bronco? come on...
I was satisfied with the fact that BYU lost but still, boring game.
Final Score: 6-7

Saturday: ASU vs. UTAH
bad. bad. bad. bad. bad. bad. bad. bad. bad. bad.
The defense for the U is one of the stronger things going for them and they didn't even show up to the game. Jon Hays wasn't throwing the ball and was playing the run game with John White who was off his game as well. Hopefully that Utah can pull it together during their bye week..Next week is USC. Final Score: 37-7

Sunday: EAGLES vs. CARDINALS
This was my first NFL game and it was incredible. Although the cardinals pretty much blew out the eagles, it was so much fun. The atmosphere in the cardinals stadium was SO SICK and they are undefeated with a 3-0 record! This brings me to my point that the cardinals might have been considered the "underdog" but watch out because they are bringing the fire this season. The offense has finally got a rhythm with Kevin Kolb as QB and the defense is playing better than ever. The next 3 weeks should be easy games with the dolphins, rams, and bills. If the Cards keep their winning streak up, they could be undefeated and ready to battle the vikings! GO CARDS!
Final score: 27-6
